Sturgis Iron & Metal’s Mega Shredder represents a substantial private investment of more than $20 million in the Elkhart County, Indiana, economy. Significantly, Sturgis Iron & Metal did not request any incentives or tax abatements that would have required public funds.

Elkhart County also benefits from an employment standpoint. Sturgis Iron & Metal employs 125 people with good-paying jobs at its Elkhart site. Indeed, most of Sturgis Iron’s employees at our Elkhart site live quite close to our recycling facility: 95 percent live in Elkhart County, and more than half of our Elkhart employees live within two miles of the shredder.

Another major benefit of the Mega-Shredder is that it recycles massive quantities of material that normally would be disposed of in landfills, often at considerable expense to a local community such as Elkhart.
